Service Victoria smartphone identity verification

Verifying your identity with a smartphone is a simple process.
It's a bit like the old 100 point ID check, except with your phone.
But you'll need to follow the steps to get it right. Let's take you through the three steps.
First, you'll need to show original documents. At least one must have your photo.
We verify these documents against the official source. We do not store any of your documents.
Second, you'll need to perform a live ID or liveness test.
It's a live test that checks your face against your photo documents.
Finally, you may be asked to take a passport style photo.
Step 1. You'll need one of these combinations of original documents.
Passport and driver licence.
Passport and Medicare card.
ImmiCard and driver licence.
ImmiCard and Medicare card.
Birth certificate and driver licence.
The way you hold and photograph your document is also really important.
Take photos without a flash, against a plain background and not directly under a light.
Avoid glare and reflections on the surface of the document, even on a section with no information.
Make sure you can see all the edges of your document in your photos.
A good way to do this is to hold the document up against a plain wall.
Make sure the document is in good condition and readable.
If the text is worn or damaged, this can make documents hard to read.
Smooth down any bent or creased edges.
If you accidentally take a bad photo, don't worry, just retake the shot.
Let's start with your passport.
Open to the photo page and place your thumb on the spine like this.
That will keep your passport open.
Make sure no part of your hand covers any information on your passport.
For any ID card, grip it between your thumb and
first finger making sure no part of your hand covers any information on the card.
Your birth certificate must be the full certificate, not an extract.
Hold your birth certificate in the centre between your first finger and thumb.
Make sure no part of your hand covers any information on your certificate.
Next up, we'll match your face to your photo ID.
Remove anything covering your face, including glasses and hats.
Stand in front of a plain, light-coloured wall and avoid standing directly under a light.
It's important there are no dark shadows or glare on your face.
Hold the phone in front of you like you're taking a selfie,
with the phone's camera at the top of the front of your phone.
Look at the camera, not your image.
Point the camera toward your face and make sure your head fits tightly inside the circle.
When we ask you to, please give a big smile. Let's see your teeth.
If your smile isn't big enough the system won't recognise it.
Then we'll ask you to turn your head and look at your shoulder.
Don't move your camera. Just your head.
Finally, some Service Victoria transactions may require you to
take a passport style photo to confirm your identity.
You can also choose to display this on other licences,
permits or certificates in the future too.
Taking this photo is very similar to the liveness test.
Remove anything covering your face.
Stand in front of a plain, light-coloured wall
and make sure there are no dark shadows or glare on your face.
Hold the phone in selfie mode in front of you.
Your mouth should be closed and your eyes open, and look at the camera lens.
Remember, if for any reason you can't verify your identity online,
don't worry, there are other ways.
We'll tell you during your ID check.
