Council on the Ageing Victoria

Council on the Ageing Victoria has seen the complexities families face after the death of a family member.

They have developed a free, practical guide that tells you what you need to do after the death of a partner. The guide includes a checklist and instructions. It also has contact details for organisations that can help. It covers topics including:

  • Funerals, burials and cremation
  • Settling the estate
  • Accessing and closing accounts
  • Providing notification of the death
  • Looking after yourself.

The Compassionate Friends Victoria

The Compassionate Friends Victoria support parents, siblings and grandparents in the event of the death of a child. This can be of any age or from any cause.

Their team members have each experienced the loss of a child, sibling or grandchild.

They use their lived experience to provide peer support for grieving family members. When you contact them, you will be speaking to a person who has common experiences to you.

They provide a range of support services and activities to help you cope with your grief.

Griefline

Griefline is a national service. It offers free support to anyone experiencing grief, facing any loss. It provides a compassionate space for people to express their grief without judgement.

Griefline also offers:

  • Bereavement support groups
  • Online forums
  • Self-care information

  • Resources.

Red Nose Grief and Loss

Red Nose Grief and Loss website is a support service provided by Red Nose Australia.

Red Nose Grief and Loss services are available to anyone who has experienced the sudden and unexpected death of their baby or child during:

  • Pregnancy
  • Birth
  • Infancy, and
  • Early childhood.
