The following fees are effective 1 July 2024.

All prices shown below include GST (if payable and where applicable).

Additional fees apply for postage (see below).

BDM accepts:

  • EFTPOS
  • Credit card (No AMEX or Diners Club)
  • Bank cheque
  • Money order
  • Personal cheques

BDM does not accept:

  • Cash
  • International bank cheques

If you changed your name after October 1986, do not apply for a Deed Poll certificate.

Instead, you need to apply for either a legal birth certificate (if born in Victoria) or a replacement change of name certificate (if born outside Victoria).

Verification letterA letter verifying the details of a birth, death or marriage. BDM may issue this letter where the applicant can't show eligibility for the legal certificate. The applicant must provide a legitimate need for the information.$46.20

Postage

We send legal certificates by express post, for security.

For commemorative certificates, the delivery method is standard post. This is because they're not official identity documents. Legal and commemorative certificates will arrive separately.
